Late in February, my partner, Jacky, and I brainstormed and presented a workshop called A Clearer Vision. When the participants assembled for the workshop at a local restaurant, nearly everyone said they were looking forward to a fantastic 2020 because they were glad to be done with 2019. Imagine their surprise when the first exercise we walked them through was to look back into 2019! The idea was that they take note of the “wins” in 2019—the little things that had brought them joy. Most sat there staring at their notebooks for a bit before bending in to start writing. As participants left the workshop a few hours later, every single person admitted how surprised they were at the number of good things that happened in the previous year.
I have heard many people say that the shutdown period we are finally emerging from has proven an opportunity for them, and I wholeheartedly agree. For the very first time in my life, I stopped working. I stopped hopping out of bed at 5:30 am. I slept late and spent every day possible in the woods. It felt good, but more than that, it became a chance to re-vision what I desire for myself and what I would like to accomplish in my work moving forward, which brings me to you!
Find Your Joy, Love Your Life
I am inviting you to “like” a new Facebook page called I Love My Life Challenge. (www.facebook.com/ilovemylifechallenge) The idea started with a speech I presented at my local Toastmasters group. The feedback and emails I received in the week afterward got me thinking because each message was so positive. The purpose of the page is to have a place to post the little “wins” in life and to support each other through our rougher moments. I am posting neuroscience tips each day intended to help you understand how the brain and nervous system work to help you to change your mind by, with thought and practice, rewiring in new thought patterns. I love this stuff because there is a science that proves you can change the way you think, and it also gives you a path for moving forward. How great is that?
I don’t believe I mentioned that last year I finished my certification as a Neuro-Linguistics Programming practitioner. My interest in neuroscience started when I was working on Let My Legacy Be Love. I became fascinated by how our thoughts are processed and how with deep intellectual understanding and lots of practice, we can change our thoughts due to the brain’s neuroplasticity. (Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to form and reorganize synaptic connections, especially in response to learning, experience or injury). I have read book after book on the topic because I find the possibilities endless!
