About Us

Let My Legacy Be Love is about starting a broader conversation regarding the events and experiences we typically don’t discuss—the situations that happen in our homes.  Most of us won’t say anything even when we know things aren’t right because our families are sacred units. To share the unsavory experiences that happen there, even with a close friend, may feel like a betrayal. I can appreciate that because of my personal experience.

The truth is that Let My Legacy Be Love, A Story of Discovery and Transformation: Tracing Adult Issues to Childhood Hurts is not the book I intended to write. Instead, it is the result of discussions with a close friend who asked questions no one else had ever asked. So when it came time to publish the finished product, I experienced sobering second thoughts.  What would my family members think about it? Would I be the family pariah? Thankfully, the majority of my family understands my intention in sharing my stories.

During the creative process when I came across the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACE Study) I had my first big ah-hah moment. Up until then, I struggled to understand the common thread of the stories I was reliving and writing, but it all became crystal clear as I read the research discovered by the ACE testing.

The Adverse Childhood Experience Test was developed and conducted in the mid-to-late nineties by Dr. Vincent Felletti and Dr. Robert Anda, two epidemiologists from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In the ten years that followed, they worked tirelessly to bring to light the information they had discovered—the results of which had astounded them. Their testing and the resulting data revealed that adversity suffered in childhood affects nearly 70% of the adult population and can be the cause of such issues as depression, feelings of worthlessness, difficulty in close relationships, cigarette smoking, alcohol, and drug abuse, autoimmune diseases and much more. As the results of the study gained notice, many other physicians, neuroscientists, psychologists, and psychiatrists among others have joined the call to bring this topic to light and make the modifications necessary for change.  (There is more about the ACE Study as well as the ACE Test under the Books, Blogs and Video tab.)

If we have not identified and healed the childhood hurts that are causing the unhealthy patterns in our lives, our chances of being the kind of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, coaches, teachers and more that we hope to be is at risk. Children are this planet’s most important asset. It is our responsibility as adults to help them on their way.

This site is intended for the dissemination of information on a critical topic—one that is especially close to my heart. I sincerely hope you take a minute to sign up for our mailing list. We do not send out a myriad of sales pitches. Instead, we send out regular blogs, videos and more that are intended to spark and inspire you on your way.

Because healing ourselves is our greatest gift to future generations. Let Our Legacy Be Love!!!
